NALU

Create a fictional logo.

Client: School assignment at Södertörn University.

Aim: The task was to create a logo and visualize it in a variety of hypothetical contexts. The logo could be fictional, personal, or an existing one to be redesigned and improved.

During this school project the assignment was to create and design a logotype for a fictitious company. The company that the logo refers to is a business primarily focused on creating surfboards, hiking gear, clothing, backpacks, and other related products for outdoor activities in an outdoor environment.

The company caters to both customers with a more professional relationship to water sports and outdoor activities, as well as to customers who have an interest in water sports as a hobby.

I want the logo to be perceived as clear in its interpretation, both typographically and aesthetically. The symbols and the design of the logo should evoke a sense of nature, tropical warmth, and some form of activity.

Additionally, I want the logo to feel sleek, minimalist, and youthful. Since the company targets a wide age range, I want the logo to be easy to interpret for all ages.

My vision for the logo is that it should be easy to grasp, allowing viewers to immediately understand what it represents without having to think too much about its meaning. I also aim for the logo to spark curiosity, encouraging people to want to learn more about the company.

In the "L", I chose to create a symbol in the form of a palm, and for the "A", I modified the parts of the letter to resemble waves, also to give the typography and logo a softer expression and to create contrast. In the "A", you can also see that it resembles a mountain or a mountain peak, which is also connected to the brand and its products.

The brand "Nalu" is one that I created/invented myself; "Nalu" means wave in Hawaiian, which also has a clear connection to the company's purpose and message.I wanted to focus on the small details and symbols within the logo, so I kept the color palette clear. The logo also includes a tagline: "Life is like a wave". I chose to use the same font for this but made the tagline smaller in size to avoid taking focus away from "Nalu".
